Can you provide a brief introduction to your artistic background and journey?

My name is May, and I’m an artist crafting "grounding art" that establishes a connection to nature, imbuing a sense of tranquility.

Having been born and raised in the South, my longing for the vibrancy of city life led me to spend years in New York City and San Francisco before settling in Los Angeles. After spending seven years working in the tech startup industry, I sensed a void within me.

I had a revelation while seeking solace while visiting San Francisco’s Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park. The garden's serene beauty and tranquil atmosphere effortlessly captivated my mind and body, leaving a lasting impact that would eventually shape my art style.

Overall, it was through the harmonization of my artistic expression, reverence for nature, and love for interior design that I discovered my true calling. My artistic style is an abstract fusion of Zen inspiration, drawing upon the allure of natural beauty, the elegance of minimalism, and the pursuit of soothing and healing energy.

What inspires your creative process, and how do you translate those inspirations into your artwork?

My creative process is like yoga for my mind. It's about self-awareness and letting go of what doesn't serve me. Taking care of myself through movement and reflection, and creating art are significant parts of it.

Nature is a huge inspiration. Its scents, colors, and textures are endless sources of ideas. Being close to nature, especially near the ocean and mountains, helps me feel connected and eases stress. It brings fresh perspectives to my work.

How does your art contribute to the broader artistic community or cultural landscape?

My art pieces resonate in intentional spaces like homes, resorts, hotels, and offices that prioritize quality interior decor and strive for a sense of balance. I typically like to create larger-scale projects (>4'x4') because they gracefully capture attention and seamlessly integrate with diverse styles, owing to their natural elements. Those who value minimalism, organic shapes, sustainability, and fine art are especially drawn to my creations.

What are your goals and aspirations as an artist? How do you envision your artistic journey unfolding in the future?

My ultimate aspiration is to inspire others to embrace inner peace and harmony, particularly in a world that often disregards the importance of nature and grounding amidst the relentless demands of daily life. Through my art, I strive to evoke a sense of tranquility, reminding individuals to slow down and trust in the universe's unfolding, even if just for a fleeting moment in their day.

Looking ahead, I desire to continue experimenting and discovering new ways to quiet the senses, encouraging introspection and inner peace. My artistic journey is an ever-evolving exploration of these avenues, guided by a genuine dedication to inspiring positive change and fostering a deeper connection between individuals and the world around them.
